Youth Programming

The USO North Carolina MilKid Programms provides events specifically geared towards current military kids. These programs build connections to family, home and country by boosting morale and building the resiliency of military children throughout the state.

USO North Carolina MilKid programming provides social and recreational opportunities for kids, tweens and teens to meet others who understand what life is like as a MilKid. The programs are designed to foster connections with other military children, give them the tools to cope with the challenges of being in a military family and allow them the opportunity to network with others who are going through similar experiences.

Throughout the year, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) programming is offered at five USO North Carolina centers and additional areas throughout North Carolina. Often with the help of community partners, military kids are given experiences that foster their interest in the science and tech fields. Art, painting, and gardening programs are also offered to promote creativity and imaginative thinking skills.

With the constant challenges of deployments and separations, military children are more likely to suffer from anxiety and depression. The USO North Carolina encourages and plans activities for military families to build meaningful connections with their children that provide an outlet to reset and recharge the family bond while giving the military child an outlet to be seen and heard.

At its core, the USO mission is about connections, and supporting the youngest members of the military community creates the building blocks that allow military families to form connections that last far beyond the MilKids Programs.
