Harris Teeter to Donate More Than $760,000 to USO of North Carolina Through Support Our Troops Campaign
Company Thanks Shoppers, Valued Associates for Generous Participation to Support North Carolina’s Military
*Aug. 9, 2018 *- During the months of May, June and July, Harris Teeter customers and associates showed their commitment to supporting those who serve by participating in the company’s seventh annual Support Our Troops campaign. Their collective efforts raised more than $760,000 in North Carolina to benefit the USO of North Carolina, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening America’s service members and their families.
Throughout the campaign, Harris Teeter hosted its first-ever statewide round up campaign, which invited shoppers to donate by rounding up their transaction to the nearest whole dollar. The funds raised in North Carolina will stay in state to support USO of North Carolina.
The $760,000 donation brings the company’s total amount donated to the USO of North Carolina through the Support Our Troops campaign to over $2.26 million since the campaign’s inception in 2012. Harris Teeter’s partnership extends beyond the three-month campaign. Last year, the company was named the first-ever USO of North Carolina Chairman’s Leadership Circle inductee. With this title comes the role of leading a prestigious group of companies that serve as partners to the USO in connecting America’s service members to family, home and country.
“Harris Teeter, the only member of the USO of North Carolina Chairman’s Leadership Circle, sets the gold standard in support of those who serve,” said John Falkenbury, USO of North Carolina president and CEO. “Serving as a Force Behind the Forces, Harris Teeter’s associates and customers made it possible for us to reach our goal of $760,000. These funds will have a true impact on America’s service members and their families by connecting them to programs that change lives.”
“As a North Carolina based company, we are overwhelmed with the generosity that our local shoppers and associates demonstrated during the three-month Support Our Troops campaign. Our North Carolina communities consistently show their passion for our nation’s military members, but this year they went above and beyond,” said Danna Robinson, communication manager for Harris Teeter. “We are proud to support the USO of North Carolina as it continues to strengthen our service members after 76 years.”
During the month of May, Harris Teeter also hosted a donation card campaign in South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Maryland, Delaware, Florida and the District of Columbia, inviting shoppers to donate $1, $3, or $5 at checkout. Collectively, the Support Our Troops campaign raised $1.2 million for the USO this year and has raised over $5.9 million since 2012.
