NHL’s Bruins, USO of NC provide gift of hockey to deployed Fort Bragg troops
Drew Brooks, Fayetteville Observer - Fort Bragg soldiers who deployed to Afghanistan late last month did so carrying some unusual equipment.
The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division carried a complete set of hockey gear with them to Kandahar Airfield, a gift from the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins.
Last week, the brigade officially took on the train, advise, assist mission in southern Afghanistan. More than 1,500 soldiers from the brigade are deployed to the country, serving in various missions and locations across Afghanistan.
In Kandahar, the troops will be able to use the hockey equipment to help break up the monotony of the deployment.
