Support from the USO of NC doesn’t end when you leave the military. The USO of North Carolina offers transition programs, extending the USO of NC experience to you and your family as you transition from military service and settle into your new civilian community.
The USO of NC Pathfinder transition program offers best-in-class services to those exiting the military. Sign up for the Pathfinder program here. Its one-of-a-kind approach includes:
- Personalized assistance – Pathfinder employs scouts, individuals who work one-on-one with service members and their families to help them achieve their personal and professional transition goals by building an individualized action plan.
- Powerful, on-demand tools – From a strategic partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring our Heroes, USO offers an app-based Resume Engine that accurately translates military experience into a powerful civilian resume that is then connected to a vast network of companies that are seeking to hire service members. Service members will also use a virtual mobile action plan among other digital resources.
- Worldwide access – The USO of NC Pathfinder program is part of a network of USO Pathfinder program locations – located on military installations, airports and in military communities. No matter where you are going, Pathfinder will help you throughout the process.
- Partnerships – Pathfinder is connected to long-standing partners in communities across the nation. Its “network of networks” is made up of strategic and supporting partnerships with best-in-class public and private entities that provide services and resources for individuals to use both on a national and local level.
Transition Workshops and Hiring Events
The USO of North Carolina hosts career transition workshops for active-duty, wounded, ill and injured troops, NC National Guard and Reserves, their spouses and caregivers. The workshops focus on resume writing, mock interviews, professional work practices and translating prior military experience into a civilian career. As a follow up to the workshops, the USO of North Carolina offers a job pipeline to connect to hiring events across the state. These are not the average job fairs. Service members are matched directly with jobs they are qualified for and employers conduct interviews with the purpose of filling a vacancy in their organization that day.
Military Culture in a Civilian Workplace: A USO of NC Training for HR Professionals
Equipping service members with transition skills is important, however the USO of NC takes it one step further by educating local HR professionals on military culture. This one day training gives companies the tools they need to recognize the benefits of hiring service members. Topics include tax benefits, affirmative action requirements, military culture education and dealing with post-traumatic stress in the workplace.
